WELCOME TO THE LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER/LIBRARY

The EPIC Bible College Learning Resource Center/Library endeavors to build and maintain a strong and diverse collection of library books, periodicals, media, and Internet Resources that reflect our mission of “Educating People In Christ.”  We also strive to provide an environment that will help promote learning and success.

Learning Resource Center/Library tours and information sessions are offered primarily at EPIC Preview Days, Registration Rallies, and New Student Orientations; however, you may contact EPIC LRC/Library staff for individual tours or information sessions.

Every currently enrolled student, staff, and faculty member has library privileges.  Our staff is here to assist you if you need help locating an item in our collection, or searching any of our research databases.  A current EPIC identification card is required for circulation of materials.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The purpose of the Learning Resource Center (LRC) is to serve as a center of teaching and learning by providing print and electronic resources, information services, and equipment which support and enhance the academic programs and mission of Epic Bible College and Graduate School. The LRC assists in development of information literacy skills leading to a life-long habit of information inquiry. The LRC collections have particular emphases in the subject areas of biblical studies, theology, leadership, and Christian life/ministry.

LRC/Library Resources

On-Site Resources

The EPIC Bible College Learning Resource Center/Library (LRC/Library) has open stacks of print and media materials.  LRC/Library users are free to browse and select books or other items to read in the LRC/Library. LRC/Library staff can assist users in locating and retrieving an item if needed. Much of our materials are Circulating and may be checked out by current students, staff, and faculty who have an EPIC ID card. If an item needed is not available, users may request an item through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). See LRC/Library staff for more details.

The EPIC LRC/Library has computers available for student use.  Students are able to type papers, reports, and other homework assignments, or e-mail professors from these computers.  Students are also able to search the internet for research information.

Electronic Resources

In addition to print and audiovisual materials in the LRC/Library, there are electronic resources available to current students, staff, and faculty via the LRC/Library student computers as well as on the computers in the Computer Lab. Many of these resources are also available via remote access by using a login and password provided by the IT Department.

Besides Destiny (the LRC/ Library online catalog of 40,000 in-house items), other electronic resources include PC Study Bible, an Ebsco theological e-book collection, and various full-text periodical and citation products: Cooperative Digital Resources Initiative (CDRI), Christian Periodical Index, Research in Ministry (RIM), Readers’ Guide Full-Text Select, Gale Contemporary Authors, Gale Opposing Viewpoints in Context, and Theological Research Exchange Network (TREN).

Other Resources

Interlibrary loan service is available through the Christian Library Consortium, a network of 125 Christian college libraries. Please ask an LRC/Library staff member for more information.

Headphones for use at computers in the LRC/Library and the Computer Lab are available at the Circulation Desk.

LRC/Library Policies

Circulation of materials

A total of ten items may be checked out at any given time. Additional limits include: three items per subject, one Bible, three audio materials (CD or cassette tape), and three audiovisual materials (DVD, videocassette) checked out at any given time. The loan period for books is three weeks, and the loan period for audiovisual items and pamphlets is one week.

Reference materials and current textbooks may be checked out for a four hour period (or up to 30 minutes before closing, whichever is first) and used on-campus only. This means these items may be viewed anywhere on the EPIC Bible College campus (i.e. computer lab, student study area, classrooms, etc.), but are not to leave the building for any reason at any time.

Please return all checked out items to the LRC/Library. If the LRC/Library is closed, items may be returned to the EPIC Reception Desk (across the hall from the LRC/Library). Reserve audiovisual items may be checked out for three days and may not be renewed.

Renewals

Items may be renewed for one time only (unless there is a hold on the item) for another three weeks. Following a two-day or 48-hour waiting period, the same item (s) may be checked out again if there are no holds or previous requests for the item. You may call or come into the LRC/Library to renew your materials. Reference items and current textbooks, may not be renewed.

Holds

Holds may be placed on items that are currently checked out to another person. If there is a hold placed on a book, it cannot be renewed. The person placing the hold will receive a call, or written notice, when the item has been returned.  A $1.00 per day fee will be assessed for each book that has been placed on hold (and not returned by the due date) if the current patron has been notified of the hold status on the book.

Overdue fines

A fine of $.25 a day per item occurs when books/items are not returned by their due date. Overdue fines for DVD’s and videocassettes are $1.00 per day.

An overdue fine of $0.50 an hour per item occurs on Reference materials and current textbooks if returned even one minute late.

When the overdue fines total $5.00 per item – the unreturned item will be considered lost, and the student will be charged the cost of the item plus a $15.00 processing fee. This will automatically cancel any checkout privileges until reinstated by the Librarian as per Library policy. A copy of such action will be placed in the student’s file. Returning the item(s) in good condition will waive the outstanding charges for the item and the processing fee(s).  An overdue fine will be assessed and must be paid before person is reinstated to LRC/Library use.

Please contact the LRC/Library if you have any questions concerning these policies.
